Best twist and bbl length for Aguila 60 gr 22lr
Anyone know best rifling pitch and barrel length for Aguila 60gr 22lr?
How well do they shoot out of the right barrel?
Will they cycle the 10-22?
How will standard 22lr shoot out of that barrel?

The twist rate in the barrel needs to be 1 in8 to stabilize those the best. They shoot great, and are subsonic, and are real quiet with a can. All you hear is the firing pin going click.
I have not had any experience of how those fast twist shoot the lighter bullets, in the rim fires, but in center fires, like a 1 in 7 AR, and a 40 grain bullet, the group tends to grow.

I believe about 15 or 16" was optimum for 22lr but today with a number of different 22lr loads, velocities and bullet weights, velocity may gain or lose in the wrong barrel length. Someone must know.
When using a scope instead of iron sights on a survival 10-22, excess barrel length means unnecessary weight.

1-9 twist..i bought a tactical inovation or tac solutions can't remember but any way they made it in either standard barrel with threads or the heavy barrel with threads i got the stainless in standard barrel and it works great[^] 0 -
They have cycled every gun I've tried them in. Do need a can to be quite out of a short barrel, in my Ruger MK III they are nearly as loud as anything else without it. In my 10/22 I really don't see a need for a can, there is more bolt noise than anything else from the shooters position, haven't stood down range yet to see what they sound like. 0 -

I do have several 1 in 9 AR uppers and a USAF 22lr conversion kit and will try it today.
As to optimum barrel length; energy equals the integral of pressure and time curve for the length of barrel. Different loads have different pressure time curves. Hence, there is an optimum barrel length for any load. I'll try & check with Aguila on this 60 grain load.

they did not work to well with a drop in conversion unit but worked fine on a dedicated upper the brass is short brass with a long bullet and tended to get jam in the drop in unit 0 -
Echoing what's already been said the 60 grain SSS bullets are typically shot out of 1:9 twist barrels, but a little faster or slower twist will probably still work OK. Lots of people have good luck firing these from AR-15s with .22LR conversions.
An ordinary 1:16 twist .22LR won't stabilize the bullets, and in most cases they'll "keyhole" flinging sideways through the air giving lousy accuracy and penetration.
Standard .22LR is overstabilized in a 1:9 barrel. It will work, and with some barrel/ammo combinations it will work surprisingly well, but in general you'll see some decrement in accuracy with ordinary rounds through these guns.
"Best" barrel length is all about what application you're using this for and platform you're shooting it out of. That's subjective.
With .22s, including this one, you're not going to see any BALLISTIC benefit from a barrel longer than 16" and in fact, velocity may even max out a few inches shorter that than. With .22LR once you get longer that 16" you start to see reductions in velocity (from increased barrel friction) and accuracy (from increased dwell time within the barrel), though in practice both these things are negligible.
Shorter barrels are more portable and easier to handle and store, and those thing alone make them desirable for .22LRs. Shorter barrels are also stiffer per unit length and may offer slightly more favorable barrel harmonics (and therefore accuracy), though again in practice, this benefit is probably negligible.
On the other hand, you definitely will some reduction in REPORT (ie shot loudness) with a longer barrel. If you're after quietness and you aren't using a suppressor, a longer barrel is desirable.
If you're using iron sights, obviously you can have some benefit in shooting accurately from a longer sight radius.
On 10-22, the SSS ammo supposedly works well though that platform with the appropriate fast barrel. 1:9 twist 10-22 barrels are readily available, should you want to buy one, and they're basically drop in and easy to install.0 -

Couldn't shoot today as planned. Recent back operation was killing me after standing at the range BSing for an hour.
With the 60 grain Aguila, noise isn't the issue but maximum velocity is.
If it turns out a 14.562" barrel maxes out velocity, I'd sleeve one to 16 and not deal with sbr regs.0
