Galil denting cases

A friend brought over a Galil copy called a Golani Sporter made by Century in 223. It runs fine but puts a pretty severe nick/dent in the cases when ejecting just shy of 1/2 way up the case.

Is this normal for a Century Galil?

  Yes. Denting the brass is typical of these guns.
  
  I usually run steel case ammo through mine.
  
  Edit: FWIW, its not just the Century rebuilds, the real Israeli guns do this too, as do a variety of other AK-type guns. What happens is the brass is ejected really hard and smacks into the top of the ejection port on the way out.
  
  Supposedly one possible "fix" (assuming you consider this a problem) is to just line the edge of the port with rubber tubing or such. Something like this can also work: http://www.robertrtg.com/valmetbuffer.html

  If the rifle is properly gassed, comparing them to Israeli-built and knowing Century's notorious QC variables...even the pre-ban guns dented the crap out of the cases...right at the neck, typically, making them worthless for reloading.
  
  Unlike the Valmet, where the top cover is the culprit for the denting, on the Galil the 90degree cocking handle is, right at the sharp corner of the "vertical" part of the charging handle where it makes a 90degree corner.
  
  The only remedy that works on this, and even then, not help much...was to smooth the corners of that area and hone or polish those corners into smoother radii.
