High Standard 22
I'm wanting to get some input as to the quality of the old High Standard H-D Military 22's. Thinking about getting one and wanted to see what the experts thought about them.

Recently bought used High Standard nickel 22 9 shot revolver, wondering the value if 85% 0 -
I'm not an expert on them but have had one for some years that was made in 1947. Had a few problems, one was the hammer pin walking out. Replacing the recoil spring in the slide isn't a job I look forward to again. Two different competition shooters have borrowed it and have had good scores. I guess on a scale of one to ten maybe a 6.5 - 7. 0 -
Very good. I have had HD's but currently have an early Sport King. Cleanliness is next to reliability. 0 -
They were excellent quality pistols in their day. As High Standard quit making them in the late 40's. It would be 60+ years old.
I worked on one years ago that was very good externally. But trashed inside. Because lots of shooting with a worn out recoil spring.
If your buying one as a shooter take the slide off and check the recoil shoulder on the frame for battering.
Nowadays a descent HD Military would probably be more of a collectors item then a shooter. I would definitely stay away from any of the high velocity .22 ammo.0 -
I just love mine. Correct magazines are hard to find and expensive when you. My S&W 53 shoots a little nicer (likely my trigger work) than my HD military. The HD will on a good day take the centers out of clay birds on the ground at 100 yards. Once I was rolling a beer can around on the other side of the reservoir (maybe 350 yards). Rabbits on the run, grouse on the wing both harvested with that gun. My bull barrel Mk 2 Ruger doesn't shoot that well.

ALSO BE CAREFUL TO ADJUST THE REAR SIGHT "the correct way" AS OTHERS HAVE SAID GREAT QUALITY BUT STANDARD VELOCITY AND PAST HISTORY IS IMPORTANT. 0
