    From your photos it appears that you have one of the more desirable variations. Along with the MOP grips and unbroken hinge. My WAG is that it would be in the $1500-$2000 range.

    The latest Flayderman's Guide (now 5 or 6 years old) identifies one with that barrel marking as the Type II aka Model No. 3 made 1888-1911, with value range $275-$775 (plus a significant premium for the grips of course)

    It looks a bit like a refinish: Did your father maybe have it renickeled?

    It does appear to me to be refinished, but not 100% certain. He says it is just like it was when he got it.

    Refinished(?) or polished very brightly, would be my guess.
