Winchester 1892
I received a model 1892 in 38wcf from a friend who passed away recently. Very smooth lever action, octagon barrel, full magazine, solid frame, metal crescent butt plate, lots of scratching on the wood, the finish on the receiver is good, the rifle could use some good cleaning overall, manufactured in 1897. Any idea what this is worth?

Just received a winchester 1892 that I bought. The barrel is drilled and tapped for a scope which the pictures didn't show and buyer failed to mention. None of them came from the factory like that did they. 0 -

That's what I thought, but then I've seen other posts where it's been said that serial number lists don't always guarantee when a receiver was actually used. 0 -
Serial number 7121 was the last Model 1892 manufactured in the year 1892. Any firearm manufactured before January 1st, 1899 is an "Antique" per federal regulations... there is no "100-year" rule. 0 -

Nearly all of the Winchester serial number versus date of manufacture lists found on the internet are not accurate. It is not when a "receiver was actually used" that determines its date of manufacture. Instead, it is the specific date that the serial number was applied to the receiver. The Cody Firearms Museum research office has control of the original Winchester serialization and warehouse ledger records. You can obtain a Factory letter for that receiver that will give you the exact date it was serialized, and received in the warehouse as a completed ready to ship gun. The letter will also provide the as built configuration.0
