checkering handgun grips

Does anyone know of any place that can put checkering on a smooth pair of grips. I have a pair of grips with nice wood figure in it and am considering having them checkered if the cost isn't to high. I realize that the style will effect the price but for right now I need names of places. Thx.

  there is a member here, oldmagics, that does great work. he has done many grips for a lot of folks here. email him.

  This sort of thing "can" be done, but hand-checkering is VERY labor intensive, and its typically fairly costly, to the point where usually its only done on the stocks of expensive rifles nowadays.
  
  You'll also have to have the grips in question refinished after checkering adding to the complexity.

  To simplify a lot of mystery & hogwash, if you are handy with tools and doing things you can do it yourself. A set of checkering tools consisting of handle and a few cutters under $100. One cutter cuts the first line, another has a guide that rides in the first groove and cuts another parallel to it. You just repeat that across your job. Of course, you spend an hour or so with scrap material to get the hang of it. Tools are available from Brownells & others
  
  This for all-over checkering like for a smooth military grip. If it is partial, inside work with borders it gets more complicated and needs more special cutters.
  
  Finish can be as simple as a brushed in coat of varnish or leave it bare if it is good firm wood.
