Difference between chokes??
What is the functional difference between Imp. cyl. and cylinder bore?? What I mean is, a target 20 yards from you with a 12 inch circle on it. What will be the actual difference in number of pellets (on a per centage basis) in that 12 inch circle whether it is number 6 shot or 00 buck?? I'm guessing there will be very little difference but have no evidence to back up my thoughts. Thanks!

Hard cast buckshot patterns tighter that dropped soft ones. Buffer's help a lot too. Same with 1 piece plastic wads.
The only sure way to tell is pattern your load at the distance you are interested.0 -

The actual pattern from a given choke will vary from gun to gun and load to load, but in ALL cases, using the same load from the same gun, the improved cylinder choke will shoot a tighter pattern than the pure cylinder.
Whether or not the difference is "significant" depends a bit on what you're trying to accomplish. With buckshot at 10 yards, it probably won't matter. Shooting clays at 30 yards, it may make all the difference.
As mentioned, if you really need to know the numbers there is no substitute for patterning the specific load in question with your particular gun, but I think you will see noticeably smaller patterns (if not dramatically smaller) with the improved cylinder.0 -
I've got and old federal shot shell guide I've had since the early 70s, this is what it says "Patters at 40 yards are used as a standard measure of chocks shot at a 30inch circle. Full chock 70%, Modified chock 55%, Improved Cylinder 45%" That's how much of the shot should be in the circle, doesn't have anything about a straight cylinder bore. 0
