continued 1873 Winchest part 4

Well, I got the rifle today for a 7 day inspection period. I opened up the box and was very happy with what I saw. I could not see any signs of refinishing. I ran it to my gunsmith who is 1-1/2 hours away to have him verify this thing as either original finish or refinished. He told me that it is the best looking 1873 he has seen and the finishes are all original. He showed me where to look for build-up from old oil and had other examples to compare the different bluing techniques to. The light rusting/pitting is in the original bluing. I was also very happy to see all of the case colors left in the hammer, lever, and buttplate that were not quite as easy to see with the pics that were sent to me. Here are some pics that I took. Let me know your thoughts. Again, the price for this one is $3000 and I have 7 days to return it. icon_smile_tongue.gif

    Congratualtions! It's rare at this late date, to obtain a 125+ year old firearm in factory original condition.

    Don't mean to rain on your parade but your photos aren't visible.


    EDIT #1, If these are the same photos you posted previously? Provide links to your previous posts on the 1873, so that folks can see what they looked like. As I recall they were visible in the earlier topics.


    EDIT #2, Super condition 73, for it's age! Flayderman grades it out as Excellent on his condition standards for antique firearms. You did good, IMHO.

    Well I am no expert But that is a great looking gun and I to believe it is original finish. I think you will be surprised if you use some Kroil an the areas that have slight discolorations Wrap the area in paper towels and let stay wet with Kroil for 24 hours then use some burlap. to scrub. those areas.
