Colt 2nd Gen DA 41 cal?
I copied this out of a local want ad paper
Colt 2nd generation, double action pistol, 41 .cal, target grips, $350.00.
What kind of firearm do you suppose this is? Are they talking an older gun in 41 Colt, or a newer one in 41 Mag? It's in a town about an hour away.

It could be a Colt Thunderer, New Army, Army Special, Official Police, or maybe even a New Service.
It will be .41 Long Colt, I don't know that Colt has ever made a gun in .41 Magnum and if they did, it would not be selling for $350.
I don't think Colt offered target grips until the Trooper.
That would have me wondering where else it was unoriginal.
.41 Long Colt is an oddball cartridge, with either a heel bullet or an undersize hollowbase bullet. It is expensive to buy and nonstandard to reload.
Every alleged .41 Magnum Python that has been closely examined has turned out to be a fake. I had an article on that, I'll look for it.0 -
Colt, NEVER made a 41 Remington Magnum chambered gun. That has to be 41 Colt. I do have a SAA, first generation, made in 1897, that is chambered for that. I still shoot it from time to time.
The 41 Magnum, did not appear untill the 1960's, so it is definately not a 41 Magnum.

EDIT 1
I know it was rumored that Colt had produced a hand full of Python prototypes in 41 Magnum. I did see one of those, or at least it was marked 41 Magnum on the side of the barrel, go on here a few years back for over $3k. The gun was not lettered, and Colt will not letter it. Therefore it is more of a curiosity piece.

There has to be some way to contact the guy and find out exactly what he was selling. 0 -
Well, maybe I'll give 'em a call and scoot over there tomorrow. I've checked on the auction side and they don't appear to sell for all that much money so it might be an excercise in futility. Unless, of course it turns out to be one of those rare Pythons that tsr1965 mentioned. For 350 I'd be on that like white on rice!
Thanks for the info!0 -
The word "Colt" and "$350" means something amiss. 0 -

Its gone,,so don't worry about it- 0
