You most likely have a Winchester model 92 .with was once a broken butt stock patched up with most likely a wood screw. Sort of like used cars We need many more pictures and important things like what is the bore like we need to know if action works. Sort of like Engine and Transmission.in a used car. With information at hand $200.00-$800.00 0 -
The receiver is a Model 1892 and the serial number puts it early in the production run. Bert H. will be your best source for details. It looks to have been well used, by the lack of finish on the receiver (they were very easy to carry with your hand wrapped around the receiver). More photos would be needed for any sort of a meaningful estimate of value. The .38-40 brings a slight premium according to the Blue Book.
No extra pictures showed up on mine. The cross screw is not standard on any '92 I have seen.0 -
My last post should have 3 pics. if you place the cursor over it. does that show up on the forum? The bore is clean and shiny, lever action is smooth, and there is no crack in the stock. Karl 0 -
That big slotted head screw in the butt stock doesn't look factory to me. Have you looked on the auction side?

That big slotted screw was used to fix a crack in the butt stock wrist.
Additionally, the stocks have been sanded, refinished, and are noticeably undersized. The receiver frame has 0% of the factory original bluing left on it.
The value is $800 - $1000, and only that high because it is a bona fide "Antique" per federal regulations.0 -
