Browning BL-22 lever gun OK?
I have a chance to buy a Browning BL-22 lever-action rifle (made in Japan). The metal is very clean, mechanics seem perfect and the wood has handling marks but no major damage (I know Browning's high-gloss stocks can be tricky to touch up). Asking price is $375; I know the BL-22 usually retails new for around $600 or so. If I could get it for around $300, would I be OK? (I don't need it; I'd just like to add a Browning to my other lever guns.) I appreciate your advice on quality and used price of this gun.

$300-350 seems going rate for a nice shooter around here, so he is not to far off, maybe with the sudden gun craze he may be just about right. either way $300 would be a good price, and they are good shooters, slick action you can work by opening and closing your hand and finger, you don't have to let go to work the lever. I like them better than winchesters or marlins but it is a preference to each there own. 0 -
If you can get it at $300 - $350 I would say buy it. They are a great little gun. I have had many and all are fun to shoot and I especially like the short throw of the lever action.

The price seems good, however on the opposite end of what hillbillie said people with larger hands don't care as much for them. Make sure you cycle it, and if it feels good give it a good home. You can't go wrong for that price.

I already have two of the basic Henry rifles (H001), plus three of the old Ermawerks Ithaca 72s and an Iver Johnson "Wagonmaster" (also an Ermawerks) -- all pretty much the same rifle -- as well as three of the scarce but failure-prone Ithaca Model 49R "Saddlegun" repeaters only made 1969-1971.
I did get the Browning for an even $300 out the door. Thank you for all the positive encouragement from you folks. Now I need to find a Marlin 39A and a Winchester 9422 (once I win the lottery[:D]).0 -
You got a good deal!
I've had mine for over 30 years and it functions flawlessly. I bought a new one in the box 10-12 years ago as a "spare" just in case because I like it so much!
Good shooting,

The Lever action has a very short throw. Which makes it faster to cycle. They are well made. 0 -
