did they ever make the winchester model 94 trapper in 38-55....thank you

    Does anyone know what year Winchester started putting that cross bolt safety on their 94's? I am bidding on a rifle that is case colored and has no safety.

    Price is high, how often have you seen them come up for sale and how bad do you want it. You might find one for less if you enjoy the chase.

    The rifle looks nice...not "LNIB" based on the forearm dings and rough bluing spots, but in very good shape none the less. With the end of the original "Winchester", that's probably what they'll go for in that shape. (I have one in .44 and love the thing, and I'm going to have a 20" cut down to 16.5" when I can convince the wife I need it.)

    As for the box? 240 bucks total? Seriously!?!?!? Some people have absolutely lost their minds.

    That box is way to high for me. I do not believe it would increase the price of a rifle with a box by 240.00

    The empty box, is a gas. I paid $235 for my last '94, a reverse situation in which I got a gun with no box. One pays his money and he takes his choice, LOL.

    If you are looking for just a shooter, and not a collector's piece, I would do what Riomouse911 suggests, and 'trapperize' a standard carbine. You will probably be into it for half as much. I've done it to several Marlins and a Browning '92. You may need to buy another front sight, depending on what you like, but that's it. Brownell's and Midway have good selections.

    I would rather have the original trapper model. I bought the one I had new and gave it to my son. He wants one as close as possible to what we lost.I realize I will never be able to replace what we lost with guns as new or as clean. To many years have passed and what we had are now considered older guns and they have all been used and most have gotten some what beat up through years of use.

    Gene, I say that the 800 +/- is about what you're going to pay for a real Winchester trapper in that (very good) condition, so it's not a "bad" deal at all. I do not think you're going to get burned on it. As for the trapper conversion idea I floated, I have two 20" 94's in .30-30, that's why I am going to do one up in the trapper style to match the .44 I have. I like the 16" barrel like you do, but buying a "new" trapper is too far out of my range. [:)]

    I would not buy one of the newer model 94's anyway. I do not like that safety on them. I shot winchesters a lot when younger and I think nearly all the men in the family owned one. They were and still are all old style without the safeties.
