Lyman #1 Combination Tang Sight???

I have what appears to be a Lyman Number 1 Combination Tang Sight, Second Variation, but not sure. The elevation upright has patent dates of Jan 29, 79 and May 6, 84. I checked with Old Gunsights by Nick Stroebel and pg 23 indicates pat. date of Jan 28, 79. Bottom of mine is stamped with "M", nowhere can I find out what rifle (s) code M fits. Any thoughts?

  I think I found out what it is and why no code listed in current references. The Marlin Collectors website someone had one like mine, code M. From a Lyman catalog dated 1889 they had a code M for Marlin Model 1881. His Lyman catalog dated 1906, no longer listed that sight with code M. Thanks
