Model 1890

On the model 1890, 22 short, will the loading port on the tube always be made for the short only? Thanks

  hello!
  
  I wanted to know if anyone has a link to find out the history of my model 1890's serial number. It looks to be an early one Im guessing 1901-1902 but I am not certain.
  
  Its all stock not bad shape what do you think its worth? It shoots .22 WRF

  My dad had an octagon barrel shorts only that looked like new in the box back in the 60's. IIRC it had a cut out port the size of a short. I always like that rifle, though he only let me shoot it a few times. He sold it in the late 90's. I have an 06 that wears a 513T Remington barrel, very nice shooter for a Frankin Gun.

  Yes, the 1890's are cartridge specific. That means, that the elevator they use, will only feed and function, with one length cartridge...or that is supposed to be the way it works.

  "The loading port for .22 shorts, longs, and long rifles was located approximately eight inches from the receiver. This port measures approximately 7/8 of an inch in length. The magazine configuration for the .22 Winchester rimfire had different dimensions...located 11-1/4 inches from the receiver...1-1/4 inches in length." Re: Schwing's book on the 1890, page 113.
