SHIPPING PRIMERS
Reading through the sticky about shipping ammo and I'm a little confused. If I'm reading it correctly, I can ship primers as ORM-D with no further hazmat requirements or labeling? Basically follow the same procedure as shipping loaded ammunition? I have 5000 primers I would like to list for auction but don't want to have create a problem shipping.

First time boys shipping primers .. I have small rifle and pistol primers coming in.. Is there anything I need to know.. I will be shipping UPS.. 0 -
Major hassle and expense. Has to be shipped as hazardous material with added charges, to the recipient. Only can be shipped and handled by specific UPS personal who have HasMat training. Have to be marked externally on the shipping boxes with the "ORMD D", HasMat warning label. etc. etc.
You best jack up your selling prices to account for the extra aggravation and expenses your going to incur from UPS, and their employees. They always impressed me as not being really happy about shipping guns and ammo. And don't go out of their way to be particularly accommodating and helpful.0 -

At $7 for shipping it is no where close to being legal. I've seen sellers shipping them via USPS which is even a bigger no-no. Minimum for shipping should be about $20 + the actual shipping charges. So to send one box of primers your looking at a minimum of about $28-$30. 0 -
Most auctions I see now are UPS ground $12-15.. 0 -
When you see those lowball prices, the shipper is NOT touching second base, and is not following the tarriffs of the shipper. AMMO and PRIMED CASES can be shipped as ORM-D Cartridges, Small Arms by UPS GROUND. There is not a "mass detonation" hazard. If one cartridge should go bang, the rest do not join in. One primer goes, they ALL go.
Cheating on shipping exposes shipper to major liability if there is an accidental detonation during shipping, and losing the shipment if discovered. With the non-availability on primers, expect to see more of it, and UPS and FedEx cracking down.
Would not swear to it, but think this could also get you a visit from some Federal people that carry handcuffs. Seem to recall something about a felony for fraudulent shipping of HAZMAT, but am not a lawyer.0 -
Very serious offence to ship primers and powder without complying with Haz-mat regulations.....it is a felony if caught, and automactic jail time, more so if anything bad happens. Also, all it would take to get caught is the person you shipped to without the proper paperwork to make ONE phone call...and have yourself a nice long, government payed, stay in fantasic club fed!!! I would not ship them to people I trust, even my own family...Ill be damned if I would ship them to strangers!! Ive been looking into this because I have lots of primers I could sell, but its not worth the hassle. Its possible to do, but many hoops you must jump through, and the money I would make on it is just not enough to put up with all the crap it takes to ship them legally. If I had a whole skid to sell, I would jump through those hoops, but for 4 or 5 thousand...forget it. 0 -

Common carriers, & even USPS, have signed contracts with large volume shippers. They may get a discount, or special terms. For example, some large volume shippers are permitted to use 2nd day air for handguns, a privilege denied us common folk.
