Originality is a big deal to Winchester collectors. I had a 1950's 12 last year that had the bore honed for steel shot, and the stock cut. Other wise it was excellent.

The one on the auction is in the same boat. Really nice but not factory as far as pad, Cutts and probably honed bore, etc. If your guy wants it's as a shooter, well and good as long as he understands he is paying top dollar for something not factory original. Likely it would take him years to sell, and get his money out of it.

Read up a bit on the heavy ducks. I gave one to my wife for Christmas. They were the first production gun set up for 3" shells. They are pretty much all full chokes and have a lead weight in the stock to "tame" the recoil. Really nice shooter but pretty heavy for a day in the field.

I have four of the 3" Heavy Ducks.
Two of them I put Win.Chokes in and change the Stocks to Stocks with-out the Lead-wt. That sure Made a Real difference, Now I can change the Chock to what ever that I want.
One has a 24" Rifled Choke Barrel, so I put a Scope on it.It also has a complete Front end with a 32" Barrel and Win-chokes.
