9mm Browning Long vs 38 ACP
The 9mm Browning Long round is almost exactly the same dimensions as the 38 ACP case, uses a slightly lighter bullet making about the same velocity (1100-1200 fps). Has anyone on the board here actually fired the Browning Long round in a 38ACP pistol? The ballistics are so close, that the chamber pressures must be similar also. The only real difference is that the Browning Long is about 1/10th of an inch shorter than the 38ACP round.

I shoot all 4 in my astro 400. 38ACP peters OAL 1.248 Case L.896 rn
9mm LONG marked 9-L SB-T 77 OAL 1.305 case length .908 FMJ
38 AC win. OAL 1.275 case length .896 1/2 jacket
38 AUTO R/P OAL 1.268 case length .905 lead tip.
The gun is marked 9mm/38 auto.
I have a new gun a 38 super in a rock island it will shoot all 4 of the above plus the 38 super-XP (WARNING DO NOT SHOOT THIS IN ASTRO's)tks hedge [:D]0 -
Factory loaded 9mm Browning Long ammo is so uncommon, it would be moot.
The only country that actually used it as a military cartridge was Sweden, and they last used the pistols during the W W II time frame.
Most all of the Swedish guns were converted to .380 and sold in the U.S. during the 50's. This was because their was no source for 9mm Browning Long ammo in the States. Since this was back in the 1950's, unlikely your going to run across any quantity of shootable 9mm BL ammo.0 -
If you have enough 9mm Browning Long to be plinking around with, it would probably be worth more to an owner of an unmodified 1903 FN or Husqvarna. 0 -
Hard to believe, but I have found some Swedish made 9mm Browning Long at a much cheaper price than the current price of 38ACP! The 38ACP is currently bringing about $1 - $1.50 a round and I can get a quantity of 9mmBL for a about $.50 a round! Thus the interest and question. The pistol that I would like to get back on the range is a Colt 1903 Pocket Hammer made in 1922. Would really love to be able to shoot it occasionally! 0 -

If you tried reloading, your problems would be solved as far as ammo was concerned for your elderly Colt. You could use any of the 38 Auto/38 Super, brass you wanted. 9mm/38 bullets, and tailor the loads specifically so that they wouldn't stress the Colt.0 -
For us lucky Canadians, new boxer primed 9mm Browning Long made by PRVI Partisan is readily available at about $30 to $35 per 50.
I've shot it in my unaltered Husqvarna with no problems, and it's good quality reloadable brass.
