Savage 99 Serial Numbers

Were the butt plates stamped with the serial number on all 99 Savages? I have a 22 High Power and it is not stamped. Wondering if it is a replacement plate? Serial # is 135002. Thanks in advance.

  Aren't the buttplate serial numbers on the stock side?

  My 1950's made 99 has a number stamped on the underside of the butt plate - "12 0 B". No idea what it means though.
