Need more info. Matching numbers? Bore condition? Is the Turk a 98 or one where they reworked it to 98/38 specs, with new stock and sights? How's the bore and matching situation there? Does it have a cleaning rod?
An uncut 95 long rifle is a bit harder to find than a Turked 98, but also a bit less desirable as a shooter.
I'd say $400 was a tad steep. I have one in nicer shape than the one pictured that I got on gb 2 years ago for $250. It was a bit of a sleeper. Assuming average shape i'd go 300-350 on the Austrian; if a turked Gew98 in original WW1 configuration, i'd say you are getting more than a fair trade. If reconfigured turk to 98/38 specs, I'd want your buddy to toss in some ammo, a bayonet, or a little cash to sweeten the deal, as I'd value the turk 98/38 around 250 or so. All things being equal condition wise.0 -
I may be trading a German gew98 that was refinished by the turks but missed any turk marks for the M1895, M95 Bore condition is so so. Decent groves. It's mostly matching on major parts.
My Gew98 is all original WWI configuration.
Yes I may be trading the GEW98 for the M95 cause far as I know they are a lot harder to come by in WWI config.
Any idea on the value cash wise on the M95? The owner does not want to sell he's insisting on a trade. Found him on gun boards.0 -

My next question is, if there are no turk marks on the 98 and it is in WW1 configuration, how do you know it is Turkish?
I'd still put a cash value on the 95 of around 300-350, sight unseen. An all matching 98 in original Ww1 configuration with roller coaster sight, etc., depending on maker and condition, is potentially worth double that, but again that depends on what the turks did to it. Just having been in turkey seems to reduce value by at least 25%.
Doesn't seem like you're getting much play on the question here- if you want to avoid posing it on gunboards since that's where you found it, I could suggest parallax's curio and rifle forum.0 -
I don't know it was ever in the Turkish Arsenal but that was what the seller told me I got it from on GB years ago. Have no idea how he knew that but it seems to be in such nice shape that it was refinished by someone and long ago.
It's mis matched and I only paid 250.00 for it so it's not a high end collector rifle.
My Gew98 is at bottom.
After getting this from s collector friend of mine I have decided not to trade but offered the guy above market value in cash. Hope he takes it.
