SKS Hi Cap Mags
I have a Norinco SKS with the drop plate/door on the botton. I have seen hi-cap mags for a SKS. If I remove the drop plate will these mags work on this gun? Thanks in advance for the help.

Aftermarket, extended capacity, magazines don't function reliabily in the SKS. I have tried a bunch of them. Both plastic and metal. None would work for extended periods.
You might get 10 or 15 shots, then they would misfeed and jam. It was quite frustrating and I went back to the standard fixed magazine, that it came with. This was with a number of different SKS's, as I owned a 5 or 6 over the years.0 -

I had a 30 rd mag for my SKS that I recall would unload all 30 rds and no jams. It's the 20 rd Chinese fixed mag that gave me problems.0 -
Use the original 10 rnd mag, get a large supply of good stripper clips, and learn to use them. Guarantee you will be able to shoot 60 rnds faster that way than trying to use any 2 30 rnd mags. 0 -
The short answer is maybe.
They will fit, but will they work?
TAPCO 20 rounders are the current fad. They have a good reputation, but you have to modify them to get them to take stripper clips. IMHO stick with Mr. Simonov's original magazine and have fun.0 -
I tried some metal duck-bills, of unknown make. Once fitted, they were still awkward to use, and too flimsy for anything but range use. But that was 25 years ago, and better things may have since come along.
But I've decided that an SKS is pretty useable with the original magazine. It allows one to top off the magazine without opening the bolt, and the compact design greatly facilitates prone or bench firing.0 -

Ditto....^^^^^^what he and Rufe have said. I have tried to make aftermarket mags work over the years and not had much luck. Finally realized two things....get good with strippers ([:p]) as they work really well and you can become really proficient with them when you practice and (2) get the little SKS Para sporter (there is one for sale right now on GB) if you are so excited about firing AK mags as it comes out of the factory ready to go.0 -

How do you top off the magazine with the bolt closed?0 -

I have a Tapco that feeds fine. The spare should also as it was bought at the same time. Also have 21 SKS stripper clips if anyone needs some. 0
