Winchester 1885 Express

Can anyone give me a rough idea of how many 1885's were made in the express calibers. Were they pretty well equal across the range or were more of the 38 cal made than the 45 and so on.

  38 EX (38-90) - 430
  40 EX (40-110) - 207
  45 EX (45-125) - 630
  50-95 WCF (50 Express) - 255
  50 EX (50-110) - 95
  45 ELEY EX - 464
  50 ELEY EX - 511
  577 ELEY - 10
  
  The top rifle in the picture below is one of the (255) that were made in 50-95 WCF (Express). I was able to get it out of Australia in May of 2006. It was imported by James Rosier in November of 1886, and was one of (4) identical rifles shipped to him. A few years ago I spoke with a fellow from Australia who knew why Rosier imported the .50 caliber rifles... they were used to hunt Aborigines that were slaughtering the rancher's sheep herds.

  Karl,
  Bert's signiture line has a picture of 3 (I think) Winchester model 1885 rifles in it. I am sure that is what he is talking about.
  Like you, I have the signiture line option turned off, so we can't see them.

  I thought the 45-90 was an Express load?

  I've got a 45 express, 45/125, and it is a big almost semi bottle neck case. Much larger than my 45/90. There is a drawing in COTW

  Not really. It was simply cataloged as the "45-90 W.C.F." Winchester did not refer to it as an "express" cartridge like they did with the 50-95 and 50-110.

  Yes indeed, it is much longer than the 45-90... 3-1/4" versus 2-6/10". Winchester did make a smokeless powder 45-90 W.H.V. load though (at nearly 2000 fps).
