Help with magazines

I sold 4 of these magazines. In pic 4, There are rectangle metal areas on the back near the top of each magazine. All of these were purchased in gen 3 timeframe. I have one more of them at home. However, there is no metal rectangle on the back. It's just all black. Everything else is the same it has the glock logos and looks identical but ismissing the metal rectangle. I looked through some other auctions and they had the metal rectangles. Does anyone know what this means or why there is no metal rectangle on this mag? Thx.

  The only thing that comes to mind. Is that early Glock 17 mags didn't have a internal metal liner. Perhaps this cutout in the later mags is to indicate this? So that the early and later mags wouldn't be used interchangeably.
  
  EDIT #1, This photo shows the 4th Generation Glock mag with the cut-out for the mag release on both sides. The OP wasn't referring to that in his post. He was referring to the window showing the metal liner that was added to the 2nd generation Glock mags.

  Thanks. I have never loaded it and its brand new. I'm thinking of selling it, but if its for an earlier gen I have no clue. I guess I can say I don't know in the auction and let them decide when they see the pics.

  First gen mag had the polymer body with no metal lining. When fully loaded the mags would swell a tiny bit making them hard to remove from the gun. A metal liner was installed in later mags making it easier to remove an empty mag from the pistol.

  The cut out on the front are for Gen-4 Glocks. They made them to work in all four generation Glocks [;)]

  Just had a thought. The first generation Glock magazines without a metal liner, are considered pre-ban magazines. This is in the various commie States and Cities that passed laws regarding mag capacity. In effect they were grandfathered because they were already in existence, when the laws went into effect. This makes these pre-ban mags more desirable and valuable.

  I called glock tech support. He said metal lined was on all 17 round mags after gen 1. Since mine does not have the metal rectangle, he said it's and older gen 3 or gen 2. There was a time when they added the metal rectangles to the gen 3's. He also said there is no way to tell the difference between a gen 2 and a gen 3. Is that true? Finally, he showed me how to tell that it's not a gen 1, which it's not.

  Read his first post! He is referencing a completely different magazine that he has home. It doesn't have a cut-out showing the metal liner. The magazines that he has pictured in the auction are completely different, as they have a cut-out showing the metal liner.
