case trimming problem
My Lee case trimmer for 30 .06 barely trims to the max length. How important is this? I hate to grind on the pin. First time Ive had this problem. Maybe I should discuss it with Lee Precision?

Measure distance from point of pin to cutter edge. That "should" be somewhere at or near the "trim to" length. If not, then you do need to contact LEE.
I'm assuming you have the length gauge screwed fully into the cutter head and the cases are deprimed.0 -
There is no 'max' length for trimming. There's just the spec length; any shorter and you are short. If it reaches the book 'max' as you're calling it, all is well. 0 -

Well in that case, you have 3 options.
1. Make chamber casts of all rifles you plan on loading this brass in; many will be a few thousandths over SAAMI spec anyhow unless a match chamber, in which case it isn't an issue.
2. Just file a thousandth or two or whatever you need off the pin, go carefully, measure frequently.
3. Call Lee.
I'd probably go for 2, 3, then 1.0 -
Debur the inside of the primer pocket befor you use the trimmer. That should solve your problem.

I've used a LEE trimmer on thousands of 223 cases(so many that I actually wore the pin down on two length guages which were replaced by LEE) and I NEVER found that the burr on the flash hole punch was even close to affecting the trim length. The pin is much longer than the distance from the base to the interior of the case.
Those pins are pressed into the length gauge. Maybe yours didn't get pushed all the way home or a bit of debris was in the hole, or the pin wasn't cut right. It's fairly simple task to take a little off using emory cloth or a Dremel. Make sure you put a slight chamfer on the cut end so it slides into the flash hole w/o hanging up.0 -

That's why I like the Forester. Use a benchmark case that has been trimmed, set the Collet, trim one, check, Go! 0 -
