Can anyone tell me when Marlin moved the serial number from the lower tang to the receiver?

I have a Marlin 336 in ,30-30 caliber. The rifle was made in 1963. Was this era rifle ever made in .32 Special? I have been doing searches but can not find any info about a .32 Special with this rifle. The .30-30 and .32 Special have basically the same cartridge brass except for the caliber of bullet. It seems logical that it could have been marketed in .32. 0 -
According to the blue book, the 32 was made from 48-62 in the rifle. Carbines were made in the 32 all the way up to 83. 0 -
OK, thank you. My 336 was made in 1963. I was kind of hoping to find a Marlin new-old stock barrel for it and swap out the .30-30 for the .32 Special. But that isn't possible now with the rifle version (mine is a rifle) not listing the .32 in 1963. Still, if I could fine a NOS .32 Special barrel, it would be fun to make an anomoly rifle out of it. I would love to make it a .32 Special, octogon barrel with full length tubular magazine. Thanks for your help. 0 -
You might want to shop around (like here on the auction side) for an as issued Marlin .32 Special and keep your .30-30 as is. The cost of your proposed project would, no doubt, exceed the cost of the new/old rifle. My Marlin 336 .32 Special rifle (24") looks to be a 1948. 0
