Model 70 scope mounts
I have 2 model 70's. One is pre-64 270 and the other post 64/270. I was looking at scopes and mounts and came across two, one for a short action and one for a long action. What is the difference? Also anyone know about a burris elimanator auto adjust, laser range finder scope?

Don't know for sure...but some short actions only have ONE SCREW to the rear...I know the Remington Model 7 does. 0 -
In addition...the SHORT action ...if looking at a ONE PIECE mount ...would be shorter than the regular size action mount. 0 -
Most one piece mounts use 3 screws, both front ring and one rear.
Two piece mounts use all four. The later short action is roughly
1/2" shorter than the pre 64 and current long action. Also, there
were two different hole spacings on the bases, depending on caliber

Both of your Winchesters are long actions and take long action scope bases.
And Michibay: Sorry to be nit-picky but the later Model Sevens do have two screw holes in the bridge. They are VERY close together!0 -

There are different recievers lengths for most bolt guns. Long action recievers are used with cartridges in the 30-06, 270 Win, 25-06 length range. Short action recievers are used for cartridges like the 308 Win, 243 Win, and 6mm Rem. For your Model 70's in 270 Win. you will need mounts for the long action. I use a one piece steel base from Warne on my '74 vintage Model 70 and am quite happy with it.0
