I have noticed some have engraving at the bottom of the frame between the grip panels.
Does this add to the value?
    Thank You.

EDIT:I can understand why the peacemakers sell for more.
The new frontier is a little aberrant with the adj sight.

No. That scroll engraving is on some of the earlier models.

    Spider...I beg to differ.
On the auction side items 328470820 and 328389541 clearly show this area. Both lack any engraving.

Yeah, I was thinking the Peacemaker model since mine all have it. The Scouts had it, too. Maybe the one you're looking at has a Peacemaker grip frame.

    Spider...
On the auction side there are new frontier 22s with and without engraving.
I suspect it is the earlier ones with it.
Thanks to you I know the one Im thinking of buying was born in 72.
    It has the scroll work.
They want $520+tax which comes to about $565.
That seems like a NIB price for one without a 22mag cyl.
This gun is 95% no box.
I think $500 tax included is top dollar for it.

That sounds better. That would be around $460 plus tax, a much more reasonable price.

Engraving patterns on the butt of Colt .22s started in the early 1960s.

    EDIT:

In very general terms the New Frontiers with the 7&1/2" barrels are more rare than those with 6" barrels.

If you have a New Frontier G Series Buntline with a 7&1/2" barrel that's NIB or like new w/o the box, you might want to consider getting a Colt letter and adding a reasonable premium that includes the cost of the letter, since there were only 1558 made as opposed to 17,048 of those with the dual cylinder.

The scrolling on the bottom of the grip frame continued to the end of production in 1977 for the NF G Series revolvers, which was to G199229,(according to Wilkerson). Most NF GS Series revolvers did not have the subject scroll work.

From what Ive seen on the auction side the 7.5in look to be rarer than the 6in.
Can someone tell me if one has more value than the other?
As near as I can tell the scrolling appears to have stopped somewhere between Ser#G187xxx and G205xxx.I dont know.

EDIT:Spider...I tried to resist but failed.
    Just had to have it.$480+tax(520.56).
    Im a sucker for Colts.
Now back to saving for a 3rd generation centerfire.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

I'm glad we could assist you and hope you have fun with your new Colt. They're nice shooters and I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

I would suggest that you save a bit longer and get a 1st or 2nd Generation center fire SAA. They are much better investments.
