colt peacemaker 22lr
I am looking at and hoping to purchase a Colt SA revolver.
It has a 7.5 in barrel,case hardened frame,Colt eagle black plastic grips.
The caliber is 22lr.
I believe it is a peacemaker but Im not sure.
The serial# is 639xxx without any prefix or suffix.
The cond.is excellent(about 95%).
Can someone please tell me the date of manufacture of this gun?
The price is $520.Does this seem fair?Thank You.

Are you sure that 6 isn't a "G"? It sounds like a Peacemaker since it has a case hardened frame but they started with a "G" or an "L".
It should be marked Peacemaker on the left side of the barrel.
If it's G39xxx (I don't know why you are using xxx unless it's "hot"), it would have been made in 1972.
Does it have the extra .22 magnum cylinder and the original box & paperwork? See the pic of mine below.

Sorry.Its not a peacemaker.Gun has NM frontier on the frame.
It has a large front sight like the one listed on the auction side:item # 328438916.
The store confirms ser# 639xxx.
He thinks it has a born on date of 1959.
I know very little about these guns.
Any info I can get is appreciated.

it does not have a 22mag cyl.
it is a frontier model.
is there much difference in the value of a peacemaker vs new frontier?

I simply memorized the 1st 3 digits of the 6 digit # knowing that should be enough to date the gun.0 -
Case hardened frame and "eagle" grips would be the Colt "New Frontier" model. Serial number should have a "G" prefix. I believe New Frontier was introduced in 1970. In my opinion, $520.00 seems to be a bit high, unless the 7.5 model is rare or something. 0 -

The large frt sight might be.But Id be surprised if that adds any value.
It seems what appeared to be a 6 in the ser# is a G.
Thus the # is G39xxx.
What would this date the gun at?

OK, that makes more sense. It was still made in 1972. A New Frontier is just a Peacemaker with adjustable sights and they were made concurrently.0 -

Don't feel bad. If he thinks it was made in 1959, he knows even less about those guns than you do! Colt didn't even begin making the Peacemaker/New Frontier models until 1970.
Peacemakers bring more because of their similarity to the Single Action Army as well as the extra .22 magnum cylinder.0 -

All New Frontier models have a ramp front sight and adjustable rear sight. They're nice guns and probably as accurate as the shooter.
Based on their scarcity, $520 is no steal but probably a fair and reasonable price. By comparison, the Peacemaker version would be at least $100 more.0 -
Look on the aution side and compare the ones listed to the one your considering. Love all those old Colt 22 revolvers and all have been very accurate that I've owned or use. The peacemakers are my favorite. 0
