AR-15 Fair Price
Hello,
I have a friend interested in an AR-15 that I've built and I was hoping that someone could help me work out a fair price considering the current situation. Below is a list of parts, not everything is included but it's the majority.

Folks are getting $1500-$2000, for plain vanilla home builds.
Considering all the high class goodies you got on yours $2500+ wouldn't be out of line. I'm sure if you put it on the auction with quality photos, it would move real quick.
The mob scenes at gun shows around folks selling AR's and AR components/parts is unbelieveable.0 -
After the price of these rifles start to head back down to reality price wise your friend may not be so happy with the deal! Make it clear to him that he is paying the current market value of the rifle and what could happen in six months. I am sure that you can find a lot of people to buy the rifle at auction here with out loosing a friend. Check and see what a rifle like yours is selling for at auction here.

Like others have mentioned. If you want to keep a friend, sell it for what you paid plus $100 for your time.
The rush is on right now. We don't know if the industry will kick it into overdrive like they did after the last election. That's because when it slows down for either reason (ban/no ban), they don't want to be sitting on a bunch of product. Like the last time.
Price your stuff out what it sells for on the internet. If your friend thinks he needs a better deal, I'd reconsider my 'friends'.0 -
Normally I'd say "like when selling a car with a bunch of high-end custom pieces on it, you'll never get 100% of what you put into it".
With todays gaa gaa goofy people plunking down their next 3 months rent checks for a bone-stock AR, if you run to a gun show or online auction site you'll probably get MORE than you put into it.
As was said, when sanity returns and their 1700 dollar AR is now selling for 800 bucks, your buddy might not be happy. BUT, I'd price it at the cost you paid, plus a bit of $$ for the effort of building it. You won't be far off at all.
(I just sold a really nicely set up Stag lower/Colt HBar upper to my Dad..but I sold it to him for 750.00 including 3 hi caps and 100 rnds of ammo because it's Dad. Any one else, I woulda asked 950)0 -
The only problem with selling it for your costs + $100 is that today you can't buy the parts for what you paid for yours. Selling it to him for the price of the parts today will be fair. I do not see the price of parts going down to previous levels when this all settles down, If it does. 0 -
The fair market price *IS* the only fair price.
If you want to sell the gun, I'd list it here on GunBroker with lots of pictures and a good description, and then tell your friend that he can bid on the auction himself, with the warning that the market is really inflated right now, and that the value of the gun will probably go DOWN in 6 months.
If he wins the auction you'll knock $100 off the price.
That's really the fairest thing all around. He gets a "good" deal and nobody is cheated.0 -
