H&R LBH Commemerative

I was offered a H&R trapdoor. It is the LBH Commemerative with heavey engraving on the barrel plus. It has a troopers name, birthplace, 7thCav, all that stuff. Silver hammer. It appears unfired. It comes in a felt lined wooden box. There is nothing else, paperwork ect.

Could someone please give me a rough idea of worth. I am having trouble finding much.

  Those repros came out in the 1970's and were fairly good sellers. There were several variations, all in about the same value range today. The exception is the one that the books call the silver plate carbine, that was nicely engraved and plated with real silver. It was set up like the old marksman's rifle with a tang sight, grip adapter and fancy buttplate. Tops on one of those runs close to $2k. The H&R Model numbers were 171 and 172 on the carbines and 173 and 178 on the rifles, the 173 being an "officers model" and the 178 a standard TD rifle.
  
  They were pretty guns. Some had a color case hardened receiver, although the originals never did.

  My Blue Book of gun values 24ed 2003 says 243 enlisted man and 25 officer made. Box with 2 volume book on Custer History. 2k then same as the MSRP 1973

  This one is set up just like a regular trapdoor carbine, no tang site or grip adapter. The engraving is very heavey on the barrel,with the troopers name and birthplace, 7th Cav and platoon if I remember correctly. There is a number 200 something. The hammer and latch are silver..

  But I can't remember if the hammer and latch were engraved. I'll have to look again

  I think this is the trapdoor you are talking about. The original plan was to make all 268 of the edition. Only about 100 were actually made. The exact number made has not yet been determined. I would think $2,000 would be a good price complete.

  The folks that are after these commemoratives want them in the condition that they left the factory. That is NIB with all original packaging, documentation, accessories etc.
  
  Being that the one you are being offered is lacking some of the above, would negatively affect it's value. If you make a offer on the carbine, keep this in mind as it will affect it's value to a collector of commemoratives.
  
  Just recently we had another question regarding Winchester commemoratives on this forum. One of the posters noted that some of the original accessories and paperwork that they came with, are found on the fleabay auction. Keep this in mind if you buy the H & R. Possibly you might find the missing stuff on fleabay?
