back boring shotgun

Jerry: Is it practical to back bore a shotgun with an adjustable reamer such as is use to perform choke work?
I have a 11 gauge that needs back boring to a 10 gauge. It has very thick barrels

    Welcome to the forums. You may want to go to the general forum and look for Joes custom guns, and ask him. A few years back he was building special "card match" shotguns, and I understand he was very good at back boring barrels.

    The answer here is "NO". The only satisfactory way to backbore a shotgun is to hone it. It's a lot of work and hard on your back, but that's the real deal.

    They are for exactly what you want to do. Here is the info for the common 12 gage.

    yup, honed a lot of barrels that someone tried to ream. Unless you have a LOT of experience and the correct tooling, reaming is a faster way to a bigger problem. Your barrel, your choice.

    The problem as always is the nut holding the handle of the reamer. Every shotgun made is back bored with a reamer.
