    There where 20,306 pre 64 model 70s built in 22 Hornet, your rifle was manufacture in 1942, one of the last pre war rifles built.
    Yor rifle did not come equiped with a rear peep sight, it was added later.
    The holes drilled for the scope mounts are correct, two in front, one in the rear bridge. The holes drilled for the receiver mounted peep sight where probably factory original.

    Sounds like your rifle came facory equipped with a Lyman 48 receiver sight. Should have a notch in the stock & (2) plugged holes in the receiver. The hole in the top of the rear receiver bridge should NOT be there on a prewar.
