WIINCHESTER 70 PRE 64 22 HORNET
Iam going to sell a pre 64 model 70 22 hornet serial #51275 gun is in excellent condition bluing is 90% finish on stock is original.with no
scratches or dings.My question is there is an indention in the stock
in the rear of the action under the two screw holes,does this mean
the gun came equipped with a rear peep sight? would it be better to sell the gun as is or try to find a replacment sight? also the front bridge
has two holes drilled and the back bridge has one hole drilled .is this
correct for this serial number gun?THANKS FOR ANY HELP.

There where 20,306 pre 64 model 70s built in 22 Hornet, your rifle was manufacture in 1942, one of the last pre war rifles built.
Yor rifle did not come equiped with a rear peep sight, it was added later.
The holes drilled for the scope mounts are correct, two in front, one in the rear bridge. The holes drilled for the receiver mounted peep sight where probably factory original.

Sounds like your rifle came facory equipped with a Lyman 48 receiver sight. Should have a notch in the stock & (2) plugged holes in the receiver. The hole in the top of the rear receiver bridge should NOT be there on a prewar. 0
