Help with M1A in EBR Chassis
I am looking to purchase a M1A with 18" barrel to fill an EBR chassis that I've had for about 5 years. I dont know a thing about them though and so far haven't had my local gunsmith get back to me, so with that being said, can I just by any 18" M1A and throw it in or do I need specific parts?

You might consider contacting the Springfield Armory folks in IL, that make the M1A. Last time I called their customer service folks, they were quite helpful.
I don't ever recall seeing a M1A with that short of a barrel though. Nowadays with the second coming of the nobama gun panic. Doubtful if they will be making a short barrel anything. The're probably back-ordered for years, just with their standard model.0 -
Yeah I think Im a victim of that panic... just worried 2nd time will be the charm, especially considering hes not worried about reelection. Besides its an excuse that my wife is buying so Ill take it. BUt as far as the barrel I have seem them as low as 16", but the most common seems to be 22" 0 -
22" is the barrel length on a "standard" M1A. And, that is the length that the EBR was designed to use.
The SOCOM has a 16.25" barrel, but I would suspect that the mods on the SOCOM are not compatible with the EBR.
You should be able to find a used rifle, although nothing will be cheap.

Look for a Springfield Armory Scout Squad. It has an 18" barrel if I remember correctly. 0
