Can a 25-20 SS chamber be modified to shoot a 25-20 WCF?

Answers are correct. I know you are asking because ammo is more easy to find but brass is available for the .25-20 Single Shot and it is a more accurate cartridge. Just stay within factory limits for the cartridge and do not try to hot rod it. The 44 would not like that. 0 -

25-20 wcf is not cheap also hard to find at most gun shows or big box sporting goods stores . If you rechamber it will cut the value of your rifle in HALF 0 -

ok same problem here..... a 25/20 modern case will split....so what causes this? So a 25/20 ss is longer or shorter than a modern 25/20? 0 -
.25-20 Single shot is a long skinny case with little bottleneck.
.25-20 WCF is a short bottleneck made by necking down .32-20 so as to fit Winchester 1892 repeaters.
I am surprised you could get a .25 WCF in a .25-20 SS at all, the head diameter and rim diameters are larger. Maybe somebody has already just run in a reamer without setting back the barrel as per 'tapwater'.
Caution, a Stevens 44 is not a real strong action. Black is best, or a mild nitro for black load. There are some smokeless loads in old literature that should only be shot in the much stronger 44 1/2 or Winchester.0
