Fire Arm care and maintainance
I just purchased a Winchester model 94 BiCentennial [:D] (yea buddy!). It will be kept in a safe, golden rod, dessicant, fire proof, ect, ect..... What do I need to do to keep it in excellent shape? Should I pull it out and oil it every so often? Thats what I do with the guns I inherited from my Grandfather, so far so good. Is there a particular product or products that should be used on the blueing, wood, pewter ect,ect ......? Thank you, Bob.

Take it out every 3 months or so and wipe it down with a good gun oil and swab the bore also with a light coat. Dont forget the action and try not to get oil on the stock. If you take it out for show and tell wipe it down afterwards. 0 -
Ballistol can be used on all metals + will not harm wood or leather.
Renaissance Wax / Polish is what many museums use also will not harm metal or wood. Be sure to keep all paperwork and original BOX0 -
I would never take it out of the safe.
The value of commemoratives is based on "NIB - unhandled" condition. If you work the action a couple of times, ding the wood, or wipe it a little too hard, that will degrade the perfection that is required to maintain it in collectible condition.
That is why I don't own any commemoratives.

Neal is correct. Commemoratives were made as instant antiques. They only hold their value when they are kept in NIB condition, with all paperwork and accessories. If your Bicentennial doesn't have the original box, paperwork or accessories? It's just another rifle, might as well take it out and shoot it. I certainly wouldn't lose any sleep about "special products", or care, as it's value as a commemorative is minus zilch.0 -
I can't agree with never taking it out of the safe. Amazing what can go wrong after an extended period of time without any attention. I have golden rods and good storage and try to pull everyting out at least once a year for a wipedown and good lookover. Just be careful. Would not work the action on an unfired commerative. As stated, if you do not have the box and paperwork or they have been shot, they are just another shooter. If so, shoot it and have fun with it. 0 -

Description: To salute the United States 200th birthday in 1976, Winchester issued the Bicentennial '76 commemorative Model 94 Carbine. The U.S. Bicentennial features satin-finished American walnut, extended forearm and straight grip stock, with deep cut checkering. The curved wrap-around butt plate is blued. The inscription "Bicentennial 1776-1976" is engraved in script on the right side of the barrel. The magazine plug and barrel bands are blued. Sights are blade front and semi-buckhorn rear. The receiver is of antique silver finish. The left side is roll engraved with an eagle, wings outspread. The saddle ring is missing. The ring sided is engraved with a "76" encircled with 13 stars. The upper tang is inscribed with "Model 1894 Winchester". A nickel-silver Bicentennial medallion is embedded in the rights sided of the butt stock and depicts the Winchester Horse 'n' Rider with the inscription "Winchester Salutes The United States Bicentennial 1776-1976" The serial number has the prefix "USA" with only 19,999 produced at New Haven. THANK YOU! It is NIB, all paperwork, never fired, ect, ect... missing the display rack [:(]. The plan is to just own a piece of American history (at least in my mind it is). It'll never be fired. Just nervous about keeping her pretty. Heard all kinds of horror stories from not doing some type of maintainance. Appreciate alls opinions.....I guess everybodys got one hahaha.....heard both sides of the coin here. Thanks again, greatly appreciated. 0 -
The rack was included with the rifle and should have come with yours. You can still find them, though. One just sold on eBay on 1/29/13 for $44.50.

Yea, thats the next search. The seller gave me a great price[:D] on the comemmorative ammo for the rifle......will start looking for the rack in a few days. 0
