Two new guns - questions
Picked up two new guns at an auction last night. The first is a S&W revolver marked '32 Long Ctg' on the barrel sn 213XXX.
It is well worn on the outside but is tight and bore looks good.
Grips when viewed from the sides look fine but both are chipped next to frame on the bottom.
I know next to nothing about old S&W revolvers but from looking at auctin listing I guess it is a 32 Hand Eject?
Any other useful info would be appreciated.
The second gun I paid way too much for but the daughter wanted it because it was pretty. It is a Savage 93R17 17HMR NRA version.
Supposed to be unfired and looks it but the stock has gotten a couple dings from auction handling and such.
I've not seen anything comparable listed for sale and would like some idea of its value. Has a 0XXXNRA sn.
Also need a scope recommendation for it that will compliment what is most likly the prettest gun in the house that will not cost more than the gun.
She insist on shooting it and i told her she has to buy the scope and rings first and expect to spend 3-400 on the glass.

There's a similar 17 on the auction side with a cabelas scope currently at $510 with lots of bids. 0 -
As best I can tell from Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson, your revolver is .32 Hand Ejector Model of 1903 Fifth Change. The serial number places the date of manufacture between 1910 and 1917. 0 -
The Savage is essentially the BRJS model, but with the grip cap and "special" serial number. It also has the "E" receiver, so it is a newer (the E was introduced in '08).
The "regular" BRJS sold for 425-450ish.0 -
For a scope on the .17 try the Leupold 2-7X. It will not appear unbalanced on the rifle and gives good resolution. 0 -

Got one just like it. It was my grandfather's gun in WV and of all my guns, it is my favorite. Got it reblued back in the 60's when my grandmother gave it to me. Love the gun and it is an accurate little guy....not much for power, but lots of memories.0
