I have searched the Colt serial number site and all the gun sites that sell guns and I can't find this gun as listed above. Found a series 70 or two but nothing like the one above. Can someone please give me the particulars on this gun? When made, are they very plentiful, in demand, value???
Owner says it's been fired 3 times and it looks like it. All original, but no box.

I strongly suspect,This might be a Colt top Half. installed on another make Frame. Look closely at the frame. Does the left side top of area of trigger guard have the letter V with a P inside the V.[?][?][?][?] this is a colt proof mark . without this Proof mark 99% chance it is a CLONE frame.EDIT I received your email and sent a reply. I do believe it is a COLT not a clone but Colt records are really screwed up with the serial number SCHEME of numbers and letters on the series 80 1911 Type pistols I don't think Colt will give you production numbers of each different type. 0 -
on the left side on the trigger guard where you said to look, there is a mark that looks like an "A". On the right side is the letter "C". Below the slide it says "COLTS PT.F.A MFG. CO HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A. This writing is on the main frame of the gun. 0 -

"FG" was used in 1983, 1984, 1985, and probably later on commercial Government models.
The series started at FG01000 and went to at least FG44265 in 1985.
Since the public Colt records only go into 1985, that's the last we know of for sure, but Colt undoubtedly continued the series into 1986 and possibly later.
"FG" may or may not have had any real meaning to anyone but Colt.
You might assume that "G" stood for Government Model, but the "F" prefix was also used for all the other 1911 variants.
You can call Colt at 1-800-962-COLT and they will tell you the date of manufacture.0 -
You need to do an ADVANCED search on completed GunBroker auctions. Series 80 full size Colts are not uncommon, but most were made in .45 acp. I think one in 9mm would sell for less, but just don't see them often.
Due to variations in factory guns, variations in condition, & possible modifications, you will have to look at completed auctions & figure the value by yourself.
Discontinued Colts are hot items, & will keep their value better than most other makes.

There's a blue one on the auction side that ended 01-30-13 that has a starting bid of $815 that got no bids. 0 -
I have one that has the letter Y on the left side of the trigger guard and a 7 one the right side.Serial # starts with FR.Think I paid $450 for it in the mid 90's. 0 -
I can't tell you when made or play Internet Price Is Right but can say that 9mm Colts are quite uncommon. Mine is a variant out of the 1990s that never made it to the catalog.
I am surprised the one dcs mentions drew no bids at $815, I thought the demand was greater. Of course many potential buyers are spending all their ready funds on "assault weapons" and ammunition instead of ordinary duty and sporting guns.0 -
