Need some loading data for a cast bullet for my .444Marlin that casts out with gas ck. to an average wt. of 335grs. It lists as a 300gr. bullet mold, but comes out abit heavier. I am going to try and work up loads with this bullet. What powders have any of you used with heavy cast bullets? I have had good luck with IMR4198, but not sure about the loading data with cast bullets versus jacketed bullets.

  Lyman would be a good place to look.

  My first check would be with IMR. Dont listen to ANYONE as far as recipes go except the cookbooks. Call them if you have to they will be very helpful.

  I am pretty fond of IMR-4198, for the 405 grain HARD cast loads i my 45-70's. A moderate dose runs them to between 1300-1400FPS, and that is all you need. The bullets are 18 Brinell hardness, and I don't use gas checks.

  IMR, Hodgdon, and Winchester powders have combined under licensing agreements. I use this link fairly often, to get idea's.

  These bullets were cast in Lyman molds. I am gonna probably start pretty conservative with IMR4198 and see what I get. They came out of the lubrisizer with gas check around 335-336grs.

  Does anyone have a phone number or email addy for customer support to either Lyman or IMR? Thanks for the replys fellows. I have been reloading for over 40 years and don't plan on messing up at this stage.

  GOOGLE, is your friend. All the powder companies, and I believe Lyman also have on-line sites with at least 800 numbers. Some also have loading data on-line. Be aware because of the liability problems they face, most of the listed loads are very conservative. Their are also a number of reloading forums on-line, that list cast bullet loads that the powder companies don't address.

  Bullets cast from "softer" alloy(more lead=less other components) will come out heavier than harder alloy bullets.
  As stated, don't use word of mouth data w/o double checking with your manual(s).
