Is there any alternative water displacing oil when hot bluing besides Brownells. Any info is appreciated

  i used the brush on blueing and i'm not happy with the results. I wonderwhat is used proffessionally and how it is done.

  We just used a light transformer oil soak, then roll the parts up in newspaper to cure for a while.
  
  Got me how you get a finger print on hot steel.

  Do not know what it costs now, but in the 80's we used to use Breakfree CLP in the gallon cans. As I recall, it worked great after bluing.

  Birchwood casey's old product, Sheath. Has a new name now. Starrett makes a similar product to prevent rust on measuring instruments. And also WD(water displacing)-40 by the gallon.

  I used to use wd-40 before i went to the brownells product; 6 of one and 1/2 doz. of the other.
