ID S&W N Frame Grips

I have a pair of S&W N Frame grips with s/n 194086 inside one. Grips are diamond type with silver S&W logo medallions. Is there an estimate available as to approx date of mfgr? Thanks

  "S" prefix serial number, 1959. "N" prefix, 1973. If you could post photos of the grips, one of our S & W pros might be able to identify if they come from either a "S" or "N" revolver.

  s/n is an abreviation for serial number. The grip only has 194086, no prefix, s/n of its gun. I might have explained this up front but expected this forum of 'experts' would know.
  
  I took the grips off a S&W Triple Lock with s/n 13xx, obviously not original to that gun. The grips are in very good condition & I'm trying to date them so when I offer them on Gun Broker auction I can describe them properly.

  You misunderstood my post. "S" serial number prefix, N Frame revolvers were made between 1946 & 1970. "N" serial number prefix, N frame revolvers were made between 1969 & 1986. The number you gave "194086" was used in both series of revolvers, with the only difference being the letter prefix.
  
  This is according to the S & W book. It's a very confusing situation. As it's possible to have two N frame revolvers made within 15 years of each other. Both with the same numerical serial number. The only difference being the letter prefix.

  We may get this sorted out yet. There is no prefix letter to the s/n as I stated above.

  Since they are the diamond style, I would think it would be the older date. I don't think they serial numbered grips in 1973.

  #194086, no letter prefix. Would be one of the pre W W II, Brazilian contract 1917's. 25,000 shipped to Brazil in 1938. Yours is right in the middle of the serial number range.
