Magazine question...
I know photos would make this easy.
But you are all experts. So this isn't about easy. [:D]
A friend of mine went to the range with me a few months ago with his new AR 15.
He bot it as part of an estate sale. I don't know the manufacturer.
He loads a high polish chrome magazine and asks for some help from me.
It doesn't fit his AR. So we try a mag if mine. No problems.
At the next break, I try to fit his mag into my AR. Not happening.
There is a little block welded onto his mag where it fits into an AR mag well.
My recollection is that it was 1/4 x 3/4 x 1/16. Welded flush with the mag.
223 fit with no trouble.
I have no idea. Guess if you must. But no photos for a week or so.

If what you're describing is a raised rectangular section on the upper rear of the magazine, that could be a Ruger Mini14 magazine.
I've seen chrome Mini14 mags, but never laid eyes on a chromed AR one.0 -
