Win. M-12, 20 gauge, 28" Mod.
I found another safe queen that I totally forgot in the back of my safe. It is a Winchester M-12 shotgun, 20 gauge, 28 inch barrel, Modified choke. Condition is 90-95% with not much use. My regular gunsmith took a quick look and asked if it had been re-blued, but I didn't think it was. It was not used very much and he said it was "very tight" for such an old shotgun.
Two questions:
1. Serial number is 19197xx and I would like to know what year it was produced.
2. I am unable to produce any photos, but given this limited information, what would like the experts opinion of the value this shotgun. I was thinking of keeping it and would like to have an estimate for insurance purposes.

Your model 12 20 gauge was manufactured in 1961.
Got to have photos for value, without them it's WAG.

450-700,i saw one last week at a show in very good condition for 650,but i don,t know if it was sold. model 12,s are a little soft in the bigger gages right now. 0 -

20 guages in Model 12s sell well they are easily worth twice what a 12 guage is worth. The modified choke is a plus. IF it really is original 95% blue AND no recoil pad added (other than Winchester it should be worth $900 - 1100 0 -
if it is truely in that condition i can see your 900-1100 may be reached,(i have only saw two 20ga md 12,s with factory recoil pads.)but it will not sell quick. and also there is the reginal factor,here the FC would be a plus over the MC,in the south a imp c may sell better.i myself prefer the 16ga alittle more over the 20 ga for hunting. 0 -

That gun is destined to be relisted for a very long time at the price he is asking. $1000 is more realistic.0 -

Yes, it is not modified in any manner. It has the original butt plate and looks nearly identical to the listed shotgun as far as I can see. I was looking at a value around $1,100 to $1,200, since there aren't too many around my neighborhood.
I know that the listed shotgun is over priced, but the photos were what I really was interested in. I was surprised that the gun was the same year as mine.

I see one on the completed auctions very similar to your description that sold for $1150, so your own estimate could be accurate. 0 -
For a plain barrel, I will be supprised if he gets 1000. 0
