243-06
Can you guys educate me on this wildcat round? The .243-06 & 6mm-06 are the same round or no? I have been doing a little reading up on it and it sounds neat. I have plenty of 25-06 brass that I can resize(sounds like that's the common thing to do) and came about possibly getting a rifle in this caliber.
Thanks!

yes they are the same. overbore...yes. fast...yes.. what you will gain... burnt out barrel. you could load the 25/06 with the lightest bullet possible, experiment with different powders/ primers, and more than likely acheive the same thing.JMHO[;)] 0 -
What 260 said.
Also called the 240 Super Varminter. Very much over-bore. Will wash out the throat in a very few rounds. Smaller 6mm cartridges will give nearly the same ballistics with a lot less powder.
You see a few of them occasionally at 1000 yard Benchrest matches.
Unless you plan on doing 1000 yard shooting it's not the best candidate for the expense of dies, brass, and barrel.

ithout a lot of preaching- the answers are: yes 243/06 & 6mm/06 are the same cartridge, & yes they are easily formed by running 25/06 cases through a 5mm/06 die. Ballistically it is very similar to the 240 Weatherby. 0 -
I was under the understanding the 6mm-06 kept the shallower -06 17 deg. shoulder angle. And for that matter the shape of the cartridge. Which in an overbore cartridge such as these is a good thing.
The .243-06 has the 20 degree angle and the shoulder pushed out to .454". Not enough difference to save much barrel but a smidge more capacity.
Added:
FWIW, I also shoot a 6mm-.284 that has the same capacity. I have to set the barrel back about one inch every 1000 rounds. Most of the loss was during competitions when I'd shoot a lot in one day. It doesn't go so fast when I just shoot a little bit each day and don't let the barrel get so hot.0 -

without a lot of preaching- the answers are . . .
Read the OP. He asked to be educated. If he had simply asked for specifics I would not have rendered an opinion. I don't do stuff like that.[:)]
