Jap 7.7 Paratrooper
I am going tomorrow to a gun auction to look at a Jap 7.7 paratrooper take down rifle. From the lousy pics the auctioneer posted it looks great EXCEPT the stock has been changed to a sporting style. Where the owner found a stock like that, I have no idea. It's an estate sale so the owner is gone.
I'm going to bid on it with hopes of finding the right stock.
Anyone here know of a place to get one??? How much would you say the replacement stock deducts from the value??

Generally when a military rifle is sporterized, the original sights are the first thing that's altered.
If only the stock has been bubbaed and everything else is original, it would be worthwhile to obtain. Even if a custom replacement stock that duplicates the original, has to be made.0 -
It's righteous with the mum and correct sites, just the wrong stock.
Looking at other guns up for auction, I think the old feller that had them, {gun collection spans 50 years or more], may have been a stock maker. Many of his guns have similar stocks put on them. Springfield 03's, Mausers, enfields, Old Win. 70's. I hope I get it for a fair price.0 -
I'd bet finding an original replacement stock will be a next to impossible find w/only around 500 made (as per "Military Rifles of Japan" by Fred Honeycutt).
There have been some repro T-99 stocks available at times. Sportsmans Guide had them for awhile. But I've never seen a repro T-100 or T-2 stock.
The good news is that just like Japanese sniper rifles, the Paratroop rifles were made out of standard T-99's that were then arsenal modified.I recall perhaps 10 years ago that a member of a Japanese collector website carefully reproduced his own paratroop stock set out a standard T-99 stock. Make sure you use Nagoya stocks. All 7.7 paratroop rifles were made at the Nagoya arsenal.
There also was one (The Type 1) that made out T-38 carbines.0 -
As rare as it is I would sure try to buy it unless it goes totaly nuts price wise. I have passed on a couple of realy rare guns that had some issues and am still kicking myself for it. 0 -
I am saying now,,you will NOT find a stock for it==its not around anywhere--so go from there,,,,,to bad the original stock isn't in a corner somewhere= 0 -

The gun was NOT near the email answers I got. The "markings" on top of the receiver. was not a MUM, The sites were NOT the big old Jap military, but rather Williams style. The entire gun was polished of all stampings except for serial number and reblued. Even the big knob for the safety was machined. It sold for $625. What a shame!! It went from a $2000 gun to $600 gun because it was made into a hunting rifle.
Then a Jennings .25 sold for $150. A 50 round {FIFTY} duck bill SKS mag went for $150. There was a lot of nice hunting guns...A sweet 16 browning went for $1450, another one for $1075.
And a colt huntsman in the box with all papers, early one, went for $1400 IIRC. It was nice but it was the sport model, 4 1/2" barrel ,Not the target. Lots of 870 12 gages going for $275 to 450.
Loads of Remington model 12's {like a A5}.
Another big sale by a different auctioneer friend of mine is on the 26th...hope to do better.0 -

I would appreciate it if you got the guy's name who bought that SKS mag. I got a bunch of them home, that I will make him a heck of a deal on. I will personally guarantee them to be as reliable as the one he payed $150 for.0 -
