High Standard H-D military
Wont feed very well.Tried three different brands of ammo.
The magazine does not sit up in the frame real tight. About 4 out of the magazine full will fail to feed.But if I push up on the magazine it will feed all 10. I tried to gently bend the catch out, to no real advantage. Any suggestions?

Can anyone tell me the DOM of a High Standard model H-D military serial # 203517 and also I am going to reblue this pistol and was wondering how to disassemble the magazine as it has a what looks like a plastic follower and did not want to put it in the hot blue? Any info is appreciated. Terrill 0 -
Yours is a fairly early one from 1946.
Your mag should be the early type "finger mag", similar to the one in this link. The floor plate is swaged on. You push the follower down to the large round hole. Take the follower button out. Once the button is removed, the follower and spring are carefully removed from the top. Don't bend the feed lips.
EDIT #1, You might reconsider refinishing the pistol, unless it's a total disaster. Values of the older HS pistols, have been going up quite a bit. Even a H-D military which is a fairly common model. Would be much more desirable in original condition, then if it has been commercially reblued.

I scond the motion on not rebluing. Usualy worth less after reblue than before unless it is totaly trashed and you do not care what it is worth and just want it to look good for your own satisfaction. 0 -

As rufe says the value of these are going up. I wouldn't say significantly, but we'll see as political events turn up the heat on all magazine fed weapons. But, I digress, my purpose in posting this was to say I sold one of these early in 2012 for $375. It had a number of cosmetic issues with it as well. One in very good cosmetic condition will bring a lot more than that. Just proof positive that you might want to seriously think twice about 'prettying-up' an already functioning pistol.0 -

Extra correct magazine's are hard to find and not cheap when you do find them (start looking now if you need/want them). My HD is one of my favorites to shoot. Make sure you understand the takedown lever/recoil spring lock button.
Should not have a plastic follower, though if it functions I wouldn't change it.0 -
