What is the current market value?

I have a Secretary of the Navy award trophy rifle with no paperwork. Just wondering on the current value. It's a 30'6 M1 Garand.

    What identifies it as Sec. of Navy trophy rifle? Is it marked some place that is not pictured? Without documentation it is just an M1 rifle. I notice that it has a Winchester trigger guard assembly. If you know the original recipient of the rifle a letter to document it would be very valuable.

    I'm the original recipient of the rifle and will attest to the same. All the parts are original except the main stock which I upgraded. It's walnut.

    Do you still have the original stock? Serious buyers are not interested in "up grades", they want to see the rifle just as it left The Naval Surface Warfare Center in Crane, IN.

    I'll have to look around and see. I went through a divorce last year and some of my things disappeared. I've not seen it since moving. I'd lean towards not having the original stock because I had the box/paperwork/stock all together and now have none of it.

    Congratulations on winning the rifle. If you have any orders, match bulletin, etc. that document your being the recipient I think they would provide the necessary documentation.

    They Who? I can prove who I am and such with a copy of my DD214. I'd be happy to get any documentation available. I just don't know who to ask. I'd want to decide if I'll part with the rifle or not first which depends on value.

    I have no idea. Except for the stock and having been unpacked/cleaned it's exactly the way I received it.

    The gas cylinder lock screw is a typical cross slot Springfield Armory part. The gas release valve is activated by installation of the M7 grenade launcher.

    Navy Trophy rifles are not rare, but there are 4 types, & I haven't seen a recent sale of the .30-06 version. Most are sold, unfired since rebuild, with the box & papers. I've never seen a duplicate of the award papers, but you might try asking the Navy & CMP.

    I would expect one with all correct parts, papers, & box, & with better photos than you posted, to sell for ~ $1,200. Without paperwork & correct stock, I would think $800 or so would be the selling price.

    I think Herschel is referring to any documentation you had of the match or any orders specifically granting the M1 to you. Some of kept a bunch of our old military files for a number of years. As I moved around, more and more of it disappeared.
