Rem 550-1 grooved receiver.

They are grooved, but not the sort of grooves that can be used for mounting a scope. To have a firm hold on the scope the receiver needs to be drilled & tapped for mounts. Weaver mounts were availoable but I don't know if they are still made. 0 -
Well, that's what I thought.
I have a customer who swears his was not drilled and tapped, but it has a scope and he wants to sell it.
I also see they made a bazillion of them, so the price will depend on condition and the quality of the scope.

I used the grooves to mount a 4x12x40 scope on mine. It worked out fine. 0 -
The rifle was made over many years. Early ones did not have the dovetail slots, later ones did. Have 4 of the 550-1s. 3 have no dovetail, one does. BTW, mine will cycle semi auto with CCI CB Longs. 0 -

I have an early one, has no grooves. It will cycle the CB shorts, it is so quiet you can hear the bolt cycle. Very fun to hunt rabbits and squirrles. I would love to have a scope on it, the gun is fine but my eyes are not so good.0
