pistol shipping question

Lately I've been helping and old friend try and sell some of his collection. There quite a few nice Colts and Smiths that we are auctioning off on the dark side. My question is how do you guys ship nice pistols with the factory box? I recently sold some Pythons to a collector and he requested that I oil them up good, wrap them in a produce bag and place them in the original factory box. This seemed like a good idea and it worked out well since the foam didn't absorb the oil, and it was protected from wear by the bag. What do you fellas do? Thanks in advance.

  I know the rules for normal shipping on pistols but was wondering if I can ship a black powder pistol thru the US mail as a non FFL holder? I've searched but must be using the wrong words. Thanks.

  Only if it is a muzzle loader. The rules changed within the last year.

  EDIT: ANOTHER change in USPS policy --- they just went back to the old definition. Yes, you can now mail a replica of any antique firearm, as long as it cannot fire conventional/available rimfire or center fire ammo. See USPS Pub 52, section 432.

  USPS probably has an FAQ page on their web site. Just a suggestion. Also, that's assuming they updated it for 2013.
