What about drop? Is that how much the stock drops down?

Drop take a straight edge to top along the barrel or stand the shotgun next to a wall with the barrels flat to the wall now measure how far it is between the Top edge of the butt-plate to the wall.

That would be drop at heel and the front of the stock would be drop at comb. If you want to get real tricky run a straight edge down the top center of the barrel and continue it past the end of the butt stock. If the end of the stock is one way or the other from center line then it is either cast on or cast off depending on whether it is a righty or lefty.

Stock dimensions also have an effect on the type of shooting you expect to use the gun for. so; Skeet, sporting clays, and hunting, are about the same , but Trap dimensions are usually much different.
I can't get into specific dimensions because shotgon "fit" depends on you AND the gun.

Exactly when is the difference between trap, skeet and clays? Sorry but all I have ever done with a shotgun is bird hunt but plan on shooting one of the 3 or all.

For the most part field guns will have more drop than target guns.
