ruger mini 14 180 series

excellent condition $700 is that a fair price? is this the one that gave them a bad name for accuracy?

  See my answer in GD forum...avoid buying the 180 series Minis, too many problems finding parts if something breaks...and something will break.

  NIB it is a collector somewhat. Accuracy really sucks when the barrel heats up.
  
  Like CS8161 said, Ruger has discontinued parts for the 180 series. If you have to have the rifle, stock up on parts now. Firing pins and springs at least.
  
  They are a fun, handy rifle, very reliable. But for $700 I would look for a newer 581 series mini 14 with the tapered barrel.
  
  More accurate than the early models, less barrel whip.

  for future searches I have a factory Ruger Armorer's kit with about a 100 different parts. Getting low on extractors though

  Like the others are saying stay away from the 180 series. Mini 14 180 series accuracy isn't really anything to write home about, unless it is to complain. I think the factory acceptability level was 2 to 3 inches at 50 yards. I currently have a newer series Mini 14, still will not match an AR15s 1 to 1 1/2 inch but will get closer.

  Ok, I think I have figured out that the series number is the first three numbers of the SN. What category would 195 series fall under? Now is a great time to sell if I need to to move it on??

  I found out about the 180 parts problem several years ago when I tried to buy a replacement stock. There are NO REPACEMENT parts for the items that are different from the later ones. If something breaks you have an expensive & very poor golf club. Avoid them like the plague.
  On mine the stock had been sawn off & a folding stock added. When the law was changed in Kalifornia I wanted to replace the stock to avoid having to register it. Since I couldn't do that I sold it to a dealer at a gun show in Las Vegas.

  I have a 180 series Mini and several later series guns, they are all reliable shooters, but the newer models are more accurate. Even the later series mini's I have are not tac drivers. The mini 14 was never intended to be a sniper rifle, they all shoot about 2 to 4 MOA.
  
  My 180 series Mini has a bolt roller that broke. I sent it to Ruger. They not only replaced the bolt, they also replaced several other parts they found to be "out of spec" and returned the gun in a new Ruger box, all at no cost.
