Hello all, what year did marlin shut its doors and started being made at the freedom group plant. Got a chance to buy a 336 made in 2009 and was wondering if its one of the good ones. Thanks

Check for the JM mark on the barrel.

Remington bought Marlin in 2007, New Haven plant shut down starting in 2010 supposedly:

The barrel roll stamps for the Remlins reads Ilion, NY IIRC. I've found the easiest way to spot the difference is the wood. Older Marlins are nicely finished with grain filled. The Remlins have light wood, virtually no finish and the checkering leaves bare wood. Just terribly made rifles now, I think.
